River Sow

The River Sow is a fascinating little river with a maximum width of only 3 metres. The society leases a 1-mile stretch including both banks just down from the road bridge. An interesting feature is the weir pool close to Great Bridgeford Hall Farm.

In the summer there can be an amount of weed but trotting the gaps will usually throw up a few surprises. In the winter the water actually tends to shallow up without the weed to hold it back and is crystal clear only colouring up after heavy rain, spend time and you will be amazed at the size of some of the fish that drift past you!

Species & Stocking

The River Sow is known for its quality Chub, Roach, Bream and Perch fishing. Remarkably the Chub and Bream can go to 3-4lbs in weight. The fish hold up in shoals around the weir and the sharp winding bends. There are Pike to be caught, which tend to be located from any area but in particular can be found in close proximity to the shoal fish. The Environment Agency have previously stocked the river with small Chub and Barbel.
